Rhinoplasty

Introduction

At our DR JYOTSNA JAGTAP'S ENT HOSPITAL & RHINOPLASTY CENTER, we have a particular interest in all conditions and concerns related to the nose. These can include functional problems with nasal obstruction, nasal discharge (rhinorrhoea), nasal polyps, sneezing/ allergic cold, nosebleeds (epistaxis), nasal crusting whistling or sense of smell (olfaction).

Sometimes, there can be structural problems causing breathing difficulties through the nose. This can be due to injury in childhood or in later life. For others there may be more of a cosmetic or aesthetic nose concern - which can have a profound impact on one's self-confidence.

Having been trained in both sinus surgery and rhinoplasty surgery, DR Jyotsna Jagtap understands the importance of the interplay between function, structure and aesthetics of the nose. Ultimately, our philosophy at our hospital is to combine this expertise to provide the best possible outcomes to our patients.

RHINOPLASTY AND SEPTORHINOPLASTY

A nose job (technically called a rhinoplasty) is surgery on the nose to change its shape or improve its function. It can be done for medical reasons - such as to correct breathing problems related to the nose or for cosmetic reasons, which will change shape of the nose and appearance.

Patients come to us for rhinoplasty for make following changes

  • To change size of nose
  • To change angle of nose
  • Straightening the bridge of the nose
  • Reshaping the tip of the nose
  • Narrowing the nasal base or nostrils

The goal of the surgery is an improvement in appearance, not absolute perfection. Surgery, though, can enhance facial features and emphasize your unique and natural beauty. The resulting improvement almost always brings increased self-satisfaction and self-confidence. We are specialised in all types of rhinoplasty surgeries and offer these services at our centre

SERVICES OFFERED AT OUR CENTER

Augmentation Rhinoplasty

It is done for saddle- nose deformity. The extent of saddle collapse varies widely, the graft used for the correction differs accordingly. We prefer to use natural graft material from the patient's own tissues like nasal septum, ear cartilage or rib cartilage (only in severe deformity or revision cases). This type of augmentation rhinoplasty gives best long-term results.

Rhinoplasty for crooked nose

This is another common type of deformity mostly due to accidental damage to the nose. There are various ways to correct a crooked nose depending upon whether it is a 'C' shaped, 'S' shaped or complex deformity. It can be done in-situ or extracorporeal septoplasty can be done. Making a crooked nose straight, giving good dorsal aesthetic lines is an expertise, most of our patients are happy with final outcome.

Reduction Rhinoplasty

It is done for noses having hump deformity. Classically nasal hump reduction is done by partial resection of the cartilages and bones of the nose.

Flared Nostril Correction

It is commonly seen in Indian noses. Correction of flared noses drastically changes the appearance of the nose.
An alar base reduction is best suited to correct nasal flaring that occurs because of a wide nasal base. The surgery decreases nostril flare and/or decreases the size of the nostrils themselves.

Nasal Tip Correction

Nasal tip can be of variety of shapes and sizes, like droopy/ upturned tip, bulbous tip, boxy nasal tip, parrot beak tip or Pinocchio tip.
Tip rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure of the tip of the nose to improve nasal function by repairing an existing defect or to enhance the appearance.
Typically, tip rhinoplasty involves modification of cartilage of the tip of the nose, including excision (removal), dissection (cutting), repositioning, or augmentation to create the desired outcome.

Congenital Defects

Binder's syndrome or cleft lip noses have complex deformed noses, correction needs a meticulous surgery by expert in the field. Dr Jagtap has a vast experience in dealing with such cases.

Polly beak Deformity

Polly beak deformity represents one of the most common complications of rhinoplasty that require revision rhinoplasty for correction.

Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasty is commonly performed by Dr. Jyotsna Jagtap. She performs revision rhinoplasty mostly using open rhinoplasty techniques. In some patients who do not have enough septal cartilage left, an ear or a rib cartilage may be used for nasal reconstruction. Not every patient would be a candidate for revision rhinoplasty. Patients with much scarring and thick skin are less likely to benefit from additional surgery.

SEPTOPLASTY

Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct a deviated septum. Septoplasty straightens the septum, allowing for better airflow through your nose.
For relatively minor septal deviations, a septoplasty is an effective operation to address unilateral (one-sided) nasal obstruction. Not infrequently, it is combined with turbinate reduction surgery (turbinoplasty) to improve nasal airflow. It does not, however, aim to correct the external appearance of the nose.

What AGE RHINOPLASTY CAN BE DONE?

If you are getting a rhinoplasty to improve your appearance rather than your health, then you must wait until the nasal bone is completely grown and properly formed. In case of girls, this happens around age 15. Boys may still be growing until they're a bit older in comparison to girls. However, if you are having rhinoplasty surgery to correct a breathing impairment, it can be performed at a younger age too.

DECIDING ON A NOSE JOB

If you are thinking about getting a nose job, first of all, do your research and look up the best surgeon to do the job for you. Dr Jyotsna Jagtap is a well reputed rhinoplasty surgeon who excels in performing nearly-perfect rhinoplasty surgeries. Once you have decided of the surgeon, set up a consultation with your surgeon to discuss the rhinoplasty. Tell her your goals, your concerns, and expectations.
The goal of the surgery is improvement in appearance, not absolute perfection. The nose is reshaped so that it is proportionate to the face, its volume and outline.
Your surgeon will then evaluate the structure of your face and nose along with other facial features. After this evaluation, she will tell you what procedure is best suited for you to a achieve realistic results. The surgeon will also consider your overall health and will discuss with you the cost of surgery, recovery time the risks involved (if any).

HOW IS THE SURGERY DONE?

Rhinoplasty surgery is done from inside the nose, using special delicate instruments. The bones, cartilages and soft tissues of the nose are reduced in size, rearranged, or sculptured to obtain desirable, natural looking result. If any external incisions are needed, we will discuss it with you and camouflage them through tiny incisions in natural skin creases.

POST-OPERATIVE CARE/ COMPLICATIONS

All surgical procedure carries some degree of risk. Fortunately, the risk factors in rhinoplasty surgery are quite small. Most patients undergo surgery and post operative healing with no significant complications of any kind. Rarely and infrequently, complications such as some degree of postoperative bleeding, delayed healing or scarring can occur, since not all the factors are in control of surgeon. It is reassuring, however, to understand that these complications are rare.
